The Mayor of London has now designated “Bromley North” as a site for the development of 1,468 new homes: (www.london.gov.uk/press-releases/mayoral/11-new-housing-zones-announced). According to a Bromley Council representative, 600 apartments are planned for Site A, the area comprising the car-park in Station Road, the bus terminus and the additional parking behind Bromley North station.
Site A had already been identified for redevelopment by LBB but a previous bid was turned down at the planning stage after objections from the Residents’ Association. Subsequent plans then stalled following changes in ownership of the land.
This directive from the Mayor’s Office will give Bromley Council significant impetus to accelerate development of the site. A “consultative workshop” for Site A between developers and the Residents’ Association has been promised but, so far, we have received no confirmed date for this.
Issues such as the size, design and infrastructure of the development, parking requirements, increases in traffic and the disruption during construction will profoundly affect all local residents. We will continue to monitor developments, push for active resident’s involvement throughout the planning stages and keep you informed.
